Pattern Play Day 5 Faux Quilting

I was delighted to see that one of the techniques on Pattern Play Day 5 was quilting with patterned paper.  There is a little craft resale store in Golden, Colorado called The Craft Box.  They have once a month classes on Faux Quilting.  They use actual quilt square designs and square punches with paper applied to a grid to make the quilt squares.  Here is the March quilt square.  It is called "Friends Star."

After all the small diamonds and squares are stuck down with double sided tape, you "quilt" the square with an embossing folder.  You could add a sentiment in the middle but I didn't want to cover up my pretty paper!

Products used:
Stampin'Up Paper, cardstock, and embossing folders
Faux suede background paper.
Double sided tape
Grid paper
1 1/4, 1, 3/4 and 1/2 inch square punches

Scrapbooking!

I play with cards so much that I don't scrapbook often.  I really need to change this because I have a lot of photos to scrapbook.  Most of the time I scrapbook using Storybook Creator 4.0 from Creative Memories because I like the results and goes fast.  When I do dig out the paper I enjoy the feel and fun of creating with my fingers versus a mouse.  My March kit "Smaller Than a Breadbox" from Apron Strings Design came in the other day and there was this GORGEOUS Spring Seasons paper from Authentique in it!  I recently found these old photos of my daughter that I think my Dad must have taken and a layout resulted!
Thanks Lori over at Apron Strings for helping me get some old photos displayed!  The scalloped punch I used on the right side is from the Creative Memories Border Maker System.  I am submitting this for the Apron Strings Blog March Madness Day 10.

Inkspirational Challenge #11

The challenge this week over at the Inkspirational blog is a photo challenge.

Here is my card for the challenge.

I got the idea to use the tag  from Paula's Handmade by Paula blog.  She was talking about bargain bin purchases and their usefulness.  Her tag cards were gorgeous!   I dug out some K&Co Tags I had and there was the purple tag I needed to finish the card!  The background was designed by me in Storybook Creator 4.0 using  a Lavender Spring (retired)  background and flowers and a Heart & Soul Value Collection overlay from the Digital Scrapbook Place.  Yes, you can use any standard digital artwork in Storybook Creator 4.0.  I find it so much easier to use that Photoshop Elements.  The Thank You sentiment is Graphic 45 Place in Time Sticker page.  I liked how the brown of the ticket matches the brown of the bunny in the photo!  The Purple velvet ribbon came in a card kit from Apron Strings Designs.

Tim Holtz Tattered Florals Challenge

This is my second post of the day.  Scroll down to see my Operation Write Home midweek challenge post.  Tim Holtz is having a Tattered Floral challenge and the prize is a $100 Tim Holtz goodie bag.  My daughter recently got engaged and as we were wedding gown shopping she saw a beautiful fabric and paper floral wedding bouquet.  She looked at me and said, "You could do that, Mom!"  So here is my first take on the paper flowers to be used in the bouquet.  It is made from vellum and sprayed with Tattered Angels Sugar Plum Fairy mist which made the vellum curl up much like flower petals.  I found the pearl center in the floral section of Michael's along with the floral supplies to make the stem.  My daughter has great faith in my crafting skills.  Hopefully I can live up to the hype!

OWH Midweek Throwdown Blue and Green

The midweek throwdown at Operation Write Home (OWH) this week is a color throwdown using blue and green and a challenge to add orange or a neutral.  I have been having a lot of fun with OWH Sketch #162 (modified for this challenge).  When I found this cute blue and green sticker in my Creative Memories stash I knew this was the starting point for my card.

I have been working to use up this Fabulous Paper pack since Creative Memories has retired it.  There are still some supplies available but it is going away.  It has some great color combinations in it and I used the Mat Stack to make this card.  I inked the paper ribbon and paper buttons with Tim Holtz Distressed Ink ink in Dried Marigold.

OWH Sketch Challenge 163

Operation Write Home sketch challenge 163 is here.  Here is the sketch.

Here is my take on the sketch.

The rounded tag I used behind the bird stamps was throwing me off.  So I thought if I rounded the top corners it would look better.  Darn -- I had already glued the DSP to the cardstock so it looks weird because the DSP corners are not rounded.  Still I like the overall vintage look to the card.

Products Used:
Stamps:  Inkadinkadoo Butterflies and Birds (retired)
DSP Creative Memories Vintage Romance (only available in digital)
Creative Memories Expresso Cardstock
Ribbon Recollections Lace on a Roll ( Michael's)
Ink:  Tim Holtz Distressed Inks in Tea Dye and Vintage Photo

OWH Midweek Throwdown Tic Tac Toe

The Midweek Throwdown this week for Operation Write Home was a Tic Tac Toe Grid for us to choose from.

I chose Ribbon, Tag and Rhinestones.  I was using up some of my stash.  I always liked this vintage paper but it is time to let it go and have someone else enjoy it too! :-)

DSP and Tag is Creative Memories Vintage Romance (only available in a digital version now).  Sentiment is Hero Arts OWH Set Right At Home.  I embossed the sentiment using Versamark Ink and Zing Opaque White Embossing Powder.  I toned down the white with a little Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distressed ink.  Ribbon is from my stash.

OWH Sketch 162 and Inskpirational Challenge #10

I love it when I can combine two challenges into one.  The Inskpirational Blog Challenge this week is Shade of Green.

I used Operation Write Home Sketch 162 as my starting point and came up with this card. I took a little artistic license with the sketch!

I took a class in calligraphy and have been experimenting with frame-able Irish blessings.  While I was looking for ideas to decorate the calligraphy I found this and other wonderful stamps at Highlander Celtic Stamps.  Here is an example of my first take on this blessing.  It needs work (there are uneven strokes and spaces in the calligraphy) but I think when I get it right and use the stamps to decorate, it will be a nice piece to frame.

Products used:
DSP:  Authentique Faith, Bazzill Holiday Style, unknown
Green Apple Cardstock (Creative Memories)
Ribbon from my stash

Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge #161

Whew!  Another sketch challenge at Operation Write Home  (OWH) accomplished!  I have managed to keep up with the challenges at OWH in keeping with my New Year's crafting resolution!  I just got my new Up, Up and Away kit from Club Scrap.  I am in love with the stamps in this set!

I stamped the balloon in Stampin'Up Real Red on Ranger Specialty Stamping Paper.  It picks up all the fine details of this stamp.  I made a mask and then used Tim Holtz Distressed Ink in Broken China around the balloon.  Then I cut it out with my new Spellbinders Labels 28.  I also inked the sentiment paper with Broken China and then stamped the sentiment.  Here is the sketch I used from OWH.

Products Used:
Stamps:  Club Scrap Up, Up and Away Borders and Backgrounds, Greetings
Ink:  Stampin'Up Real Red, Ranger Jet Black Archival, Tim Holtz Distressed Broken China
DSP and Cardstock:  Club Scrap
Ranger Specialty Stamping Paper
