Cards in Envy Framed with Circles

Today is a new challenge on the Cards in Envy blog.  Show us your cards using one or more circle frames.  I'm still working on Christmas cards.

CraftyColonel Donna Nuce for Cards in Envy Challenge blog, Heartfelt creations Sparkling Poinsettia
A couple of weekends ago a bunch of us went down to my Sister-in-laws and had a weekend crafting extravaganzaa.  We made a bunch of these poinsettias from Heartfelt Creations (and some roses too).  Square cards are not my normal size but it worked well with this DP.  This will fit in an envelope - it will just squish the flower a little.

Come on over to the Cards in Envy blog and see what the rest of the design team came up with.  Then link up your circle frame cards with us.

Club Scrap Scandinavian Holiday Linky Party

Today on the Club Scrap blog there is a linky party for the cute Scandinavian Holiday Collection.  Here is a Christmas tag I made from the collection.

CraftyColonel Donna Nuce for Club Scrap Scandinavian Linky Party. Scandinavia Holiday Collection
The technique I used for the 3D Christmas tree was and idea I got from Jennifer McQuire's blog.  The tree stamps are not quite symmetrical but it still worked out to make a cute 3D tree.  Come check out all the Holiday ideas on the Club Scrap blog with the adorable Scandinavia Holiday collection.

Cards in Envy "It's Only Paper"

The new challenge on the Cards in Envy it titled "It's only paper."  That means we want cards with NO stamping, NO embellishment and NO ribbon unless made from from paper.  I'm still working on Christmas cards so I opted for die cuts to meet the challenge.
CraftyColonel Donna Nuce for Cards in Envy challenge blog. Christmas Card, Spellbinders and Memory Box dies.
I cut the spellbinders dove from a gold foil and then added three white cardstock cuts behind it to help it pop off the page. I did the same for the Memory Box Peace and Joy die cut.

Cards in Envy Typography

The new challenge on the Cards in Envy blog is called "Typography."  Create a card using letters, words or a sentiment as the main focus.  This Merry Christmas sentiment from Cherry Lynn is so pretty and is so big it becomes the focus of the card.  I cut it out of 5" tear tape and used silver guilding flakes to cover the die.  Then I cut a black cardstock one to mount on back to give it some lift off the card.

CraftyColonel Donna Nuce for Cards in Envy challenge. Cherry Lynn die. Christmas card.
The black and white carols paper from Stampin'Up made a great background.  I mounted it on metallic silver cardstock and attached a metallic silver bow.

Club Scrap Lagoon

I finally had a chance to get out my Club Stamp Lagoon kit and make some cards.  I came up with different versions from the suggestions in the kit.  I'll add these to the linky party for Lagoon.

CraftyColonel Donna Nuce for ClubScrap Lagoon Linky Party
On this card I used the Quad Print and cut slits in the seaweed.  The fish are stamped, cut out and  inserted in the slits to make it look like they are swimming in and out of the seaweed.  The fish are coated with Wink of Stella for some shine.

Cards in Envy Simple, Plain Card

The challenge on the Cards in Envy blog starts today and we are asking for simple, plain cards (Easy as 1, 2, 3).  That was a real challenge for me.

CraftyColonel Donna Nuce for Cards in Envy Simple Cards, Tim Holtz thinlits and Snow Flurries. Memory Box Stencil

I did a stencil background (using distress ink and perfect pearls over the ink) and two die cuts.  That is as simple as I get (LOL)!  I really wanted to start working on Christmas Cards.  Yes, we have about 2 months before it is time to mail out Christmas Cards.

Club Scrap Vintage Botany Blog Hop

I got my Vintage Botany Club Stamp kit and had to start playing right away.  The stamps are just gorgeous!  (I always order the Art Nouveau and the Greetings stamps too).  I decided to try some masking and am really pleased with the results.

Because this kit is one of my absolute favorites I also ordered the Club Scrap Deluxe kit so I can make some scrapbook pages!  If you never ordered from Club Scrap before I would highly recommend this kit as your starter - you won't be disappointed.   (No I don't get any free products from them - I just LOVE their kits!)

Next week I will be attending the Club Scrap Retreat in Oshkosh Wisconsin!  I can't wait.  Here's a picture of me from the last year's retreat with the world famous Tricia Morris (Club Scrap owner)!

Cards in Envy Pink or Blue Challenge

The new challenge on the Cards in Envy blog has two color options.  Creat a card with baby blue colors OR a pretty pink colored card.  It can be "baby" cards but it doesn't have to be -- any occasion works.  I decided to choose pink and a baby card.

Over the 4th of July weekend we visited my brother and his wife.  My SIL loves to scrapbook and make cards.  I used some of her stash to make this card.  The die cuts were so adorable, they are from Crafter's Companion Little Angel Signature Collection by Sara Davies.  So stinkin' cute!  So glad my SIL had those pink pearls to finish it off!

Club Scrap Cherry Blossom

Today I am a guest artist on the Club Scrap blog for the Greetings to Go Cherry Blossom kit.  I am thrilled that Club Scrap picked my idea (and combined with Roni Johnson's) of a Japanese Cherry Blossom theme.

There is a special story behind my love of Japanese art and images.  In 1945 my father joined the Army (as soon as he was out of High School) and was stationed in Japan during the occupation after the end of World War II.  He traveled the whole country as the driver for the Chief of Chaplains.  As kids growing up we were acculturated into Japanese food and art through my father.  We were eating in Japanese restaurants (on the floor as tradition) long before they ever became popular.  Our house was decorated with beautiful Japanese woodblock prints that my father brought back with him from Japan.  I love the arts of  Ikebana and Bonsai.  I try to attend the Japanese Festival of Dolls every year at one of our local Methodist churches (they have displays of Ikebana, Bonsai and gorgeous dolls). So it is with great joy that I get to create some special Cherry Blossom cards for the Club Scrap Greetings to Go kit and honor my Father's love of all things Japanese.

Come visit the Club Scrap blog to see the entire collection of cards I created.

Cards in Envy Be My Valentine Challenge

The latest challenge over on the Cards in Envy blog is to show us your Valentine Cards.  Cards should say "be mine' or "Happy Valentine's Day."  I decided on a masculine Valentine's Day card.

Crafty Colonel Donna Nuce for Cards in Envy Challenge Blog, Masculine Card, Hero Arts Dude, CTMH Wild Thing

I used the Hero Arts (OWH) "Dude" stamp set for the bacon and "more than bacon" sentiment.  The original sentiment was "I like you more than bacon."  I definitely wanted to say "I love you."  Since I use Evernote to catalog my stamps it was easy enough to type in "I love you" and see all the different versions of that sentiment I had.  I settled on CTMH Wild Thing stamp set and was able to get exactly what I was looking for as a sentiment.  I was thrilled to find a piece of DP in my stash that had wavy lines similar to the stripes in bacon.  Perfect for the background.

Archival Ink Resist on Yupo

I had Yupo paper but had not done anything with it yet until today.  I watched a Tim Holtz video where he demonstrated the Yupo paper with alcohol inks.  He showed a technique where you stamp with archival ink over the alcohol ink background and immediately wipe the ink off to create a resist on the background.  Here is how mine turned out.
